Charles Arnoldi
Begun in 2004, Charles Arnoldi’s Arc paintings were the later result of his Ellipses. In the Arc paintings, he continued to paint smaller panels, which were then bolted together to form a larger composition. This distinctive form of painting not only allowed Arnoldi to physically manage the painting in a new way, but also to introduce motion into the pieces.
What is different is the way he explored the shape of the arc. Seemingly truncated circular objects, the painted arcs work together between the various panels to generate fluid visual movement. Arnoldi's use of a limited color palette focuses the viewer's attention on this movement. One curator said it best when describing the arcs connecting and dividing the panels as, “creating a rhythmic dance that is confined only by the edges of the overall surface.”
